The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy and Dubrovnik International University (DIU) are pleased to announce the postgraduate Master of Arts program in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy. Offered by DIU in partnership with the ICD, the program will combine the traditional academic components of international relations with a new focus on the role of soft power and cultural diplomacy in contemporary global affairs.
The Degree
While the study of political science has been a cherished tradition of academia, the developments outlined above demand the identification of entirely new theories and models. An understanding of the challenges faced by the contemporary world requires an interdisciplinary approach; International Relations and Diplomacy should not be understood only as disciplines of Political Science or Political Theory, but must also be interpreted from the perspective of economics, law, and other social sciences.
The key objectives of the MA in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy is to leave students with a strong foundation in international relations theory and contemporary diplomatic strategies, allow them to explore and examine an area of particular interest, and help them gain practical experience through internships and research studies in relevant international institutions.
Additionally, the program will place a strong emphasis on individual and written work by obliging students to research and compose several seminar works, complete a course in quantitative and qualitative methodology, and successfully write and defend a dissertation. The curriculum will highlight and develop critical thinking, writing and analytical skills, and will integrate multidisciplinary core requirements with practical training, internships and field experience.
The Program Curriculum, which integrates multidisciplinary core requirements with practical training and field experience, and the Faculty will provide students with the knowledge and skills required in a complex global order and with access to a range of experts from the international politics and diplomacy, preparing them for evolving careers in public and private international sectors.

Admissions
DIU and the ICD do not consider any one element of an application exclusively. Rather, our admissions panel considers academic achievement as well as personal qualities such as strength of character, motivation and the ability and willingness to take on new academic challenges. Additional factors, such as essays, letters of recommendation, and interviews are also a vital part of the admissions process. Our aim is to attract students from a variety of backgrounds and countries that will foster a unique and diverse learning environment.

In January 2011 the ICD hosted "The Future of US Foreign Policy" (Washington DC, January 4th-6th), which hosted The Honorable Michael Chertoff - Former United States Secretary of Homeland Security; Senator William Emerson Brock III - 18th United States Secretary of Labor; Admiral James Milton Loy - Former Commandant of theCoast Guard; Vivian Schiller – Former CEO and President of NPR; Governor William Weld - Former Governor of Massachusettsand The Hon. Senator Tim Hutchinson - Former United States Senator from Arkansas.
In November 2010 the ICD hosted “A World without Walls: An InternationalConference on Peacebuilding, Reconciliation and Globalization in an Interdependent World”, which marked the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (www.world-without-walls.org). Speakers in this event included Lord Anthony Giddens (Baron Giddens, of Southgate) - Former Director of the London School of Economics; Janez Janša - Former Prime Minister of Slovenia; Joaquim Chissano - Former President of Mozambique; and Lord Jack McConnell - Former First Minister of Scotland.

El Instituto para la Diplomacia Cultural y la Universidad Internacional de Dubrovnik (DIU) se complace en anunciar el Master de postgrado del programa en Relaciones Internacionales y Diplomacia Cultural. La comprensión de los desafíos que enfrenta el mundo actual requiere un enfoque interdisciplinario, Relaciones Internacionales y Diplomacia no debe entenderse sólo como disciplinas de la ciencia política o teoría política, sino que también debe ser interpretado desde la perspectiva de la economía, derecho y otras ciencias sociales .
Los objetivos principales de la Maestría en Relaciones Internacionales y Diplomacia Cultural es dejar a los estudiantes una base sólida en la teoría de las relaciones internacionales contemporáneas y estrategias diplomáticas, les permiten explorar y examinar un área de interés particular, y les ayudan a adquirir experiencia práctica a través de pasantías y estudios de investigación en las instituciones internacionales pertinentes.
Además, el programa pondrá un fuerte énfasis en el trabajo individual y por escrito al obligar a los estudiantes a la investigación y componer varias obras seminario, completar un curso de metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa, y con éxito escribir y defender una tesis.
